She was a mere amateur whose entire body of work was discovered by chance in 2007 by a private collector, John Maloof, at an auction. More than 10,000 negatives depicting urban life scenes were then found. Since then she has been the subject of numerous posthumous editions and exhibitions.

In the heart of American society, in New York from 1951 and then in Chicago from 1956, this nanny meticulously observes the urban fabric that already reflects the major social and political changes of its history.
