Description from the seller
This oil painting was made by Bernard Dufour (1922–2016), a French painter who became known after World War II for abstract work and later for portraits and human figures. He was born in Paris and initially studied agriculture. During the German occupation he was forced to work in Germany, where he came into contact with other artists and writers. After the war he deepened his study of art by examining old masters in the Louvre.
His first solo exhibition took place in 1948, followed by several other exhibitions and an exclusive contract with an art dealer. In 1959 he participated in the documenta in Kassel. From 1960 Dufour shifted to figurative painting, including self-portraits and nudes. He lived and worked in Foissac and in 1964 he participated in the Venice Biennale. From the seventies he also worked with photography and wrote several artistic texts.
