Description from the seller
The Paris gallery CHENUS LONGHI presents you «Kase2», an original work on wood by the artist C215 that comes with its certificate of authenticity. Created in 2013, this work by C215 pays tribute to Kase 2, a legend of New York graffiti and a major figure in 1980s writing, immortalized by photographer Martha Cooper. This work testifies to the technical mastery and sensitivity of the French street artist, here at the peak of his art. The portrait, of great intensity, captures both the power and the fragility of the subject. The piece is enhanced by a custom-made frame in a black bevelled American-style frame, of premium quality. Acquired in 2013 from Opera Gallery, this piece constitutes one of C215’s strongest tributes to the history of graffiti, a dialogue between two generations of urban artists bound by a shared respect for gesture and the wall.
- Signed on the front with the C215 logotype stencil
- Signed and dated on the back “Christian Guémy” by the artist by hand
- Frame in black bevelled American-style wood, framed size 148 x 107 cm
- Comes with a certificate of authenticity and value issued by Opera Gallery in 2013
- Very careful packaging;
- Shipment with insurance and tracking;
- If you live in the Paris region, you can pick up the artwork directly at our gallery located in the 11th arrondissement.
About the artist
Christian Guémy alias C215 became known worldwide in the second half of the 2000s thanks to his stencils, most often giving pride of place to portraits. Hyperactive both in the street and in the workshop, Christian Guémy is the embodiment of street art today. Fond of classical art – notably the great masters of the Italian and Flemish Renaissance such as Caravaggio or Dürer – he gives stencil as a medium its nobility and astonishes the public with his technique. But the fascination he exerts does not stop there. Indeed, he uses his marketing sense and his rhetoric to produce works on universally relatable subjects: numerous portraits of anonymous people, including the homeless; his daughter Nina whom he has continually represented during her childhood, but also many portraits of historical, literary and poetic figures. C215 is a deeply humanist painter, expressing himself through a sensitive, fragmented, skin-deep visual language, enriched by a plural culture and bearing universal values, advocating tolerance and coexistence. His work has for several years been surrounded by institutional recognition with several significant exhibitions dedicated to him, from the Musée des Arts et Métiers to the Invalides Museum, passing through the Inguimbertine in Carpentras more recently in 2025.
C215 is part of the street art movement, alongside artists such as Vhils, Invader, Shepard Fairey, JonOne, Kaws, Futura.
