Description from the seller
Large-format painting by the Italian Luciano Vadalà, a contemporary artist whose output is distinguished by a strong expressive and symbolic component. Vadalà is known for a painterly research focused on the human figure, often depicted in an introspective and emotionally charged key. In his works, influences traceable to Expressionism and a symbolic sensitivity emerge, with particular attention to the relationship between body, nature, and inner dimension. The early phase, to which the examined painting belongs, is characterized by instinctive, material, and intensely evocative painting.
The painting, untitled but commonly identifiable as Figure with a Basket of Flowers, is executed with mixed media on canvas and can be dated presumably between the late 20th and early 21st century. It is a work of notable dimensions: the internal light of the canvas measures 180 × 107 cm, while the overall footprint, including the worked gilded wooden frame, is 190 × 120 cm.
The artist’s signature is visible at the lower right, applied with a brush, accompanied by a partially legible date.
A unique work, not part of editions or multiples, it comes from a private collection.
From a conservation standpoint, the work presents in good overall condition: the painted surface appears stable, with slight signs of time compatible with its age, while the frame shows minimal signs of wear.
The work is offered already framed and ready for exhibition.
Iconographically and stylistically, the painting depicts a nude male figure, emaciated and intensely expressive, captured in a static pose with the head tilted back and the eyes closed. The body emerges from an undefined, dreamlike space, treated with free and vibrant brushstrokes. In the hands, the subject holds a basket full of vividly colored flowers, while other floral elements spread to the sides, establishing a visual and symbolic contrast between the fragility of the human figure and the vitality of nature.
This juxtaposition, together with the suspended atmosphere and the dynamic painterly material, suggests a deep reflection on existence, on transience, and on the possibility of regeneration, already highlighting, in this youthful phase, Luciano Vadalà’s poetic sensibility and expressive search.
