Description from the seller
*André Wagner (Germany, 1980)
Spiritual Architecture – Durga and Hanuman, India, 2014
Original illuminated box (Duratrans print behind a glossy acrylic glass) in an aluminium frame.
This work shows an extraordinary perspective on the Hindu goddess Durga and the monkey god Hanuman in the Vaishno Devi Temple in Northern India. While visitors typically perceive only the front view of the monumental figures, here the rear view was captured with dramatic backlighting. The intense lighting creates a strong sense of spatial depth and lends the scene a virtually sculptural presence.
The work was created in 2014 and is characterized by precise control of light and color. The nocturnal staging transforms the figures and elevates their visual impact beyond everyday perception.
André Wagner has been creating art since the age of 14. After early experiences with graffiti, he completed photographic training and has been working as a freelance photographer for about three decades. His works have been shown internationally, including at the 55th Venice Biennale, the Moritzburg Halle Art Museum, the Albertinum Dresden, as well as at international art fairs and in institutional collections.
Technique:
Duratrans print behind glossy acrylic glass, mounted in an aluminium lightbox with integrated illumination
Dimensions:
60 × 60 × 10 cm
Edition:
Edition 7 + 2 Artist Proofs
Offered copy: No. 1/7

Additional notes:
The work is conceived as a light box and unfolds its full effect through the integrated backlighting. It is not a classic print, but an object-like artwork with spatial depth.
