Description from the seller
An antique set of two parallel rulers, type "Captain Field’s Improved".
A beautiful example of craftsmanship from the heyday of manual navigation.
This type of ruler was used by captains and navigators to accurately transfer courses across nautical charts. The set consists of:
A boxwood ruler: Very detailed with engraved wind directions and a degree arc, fitted with finely patinated brass fittings.
An ebony/black ruler: A classic, robust instrument with an authentic, lived-in look.
Both woods are presumed. The connoisseur will certainly know.
Both instruments are marked with "Made in England" and are in a lovely antique condition with signs that testify to their maritime past.
Perfect for a study, on a desk, or as part of a nautical collection.
Many photos included so the instrument can be evaluated properly. Also a photo with a pen so the size is easy to gauge.
Photos are part of the description.
Both are very carefully packaged, sent by registered mail and insured with a track-and-trace code.
