Description from the seller

Jan Mankes 1889 - 1920

Original Heliogravure White Horse 1923
After Painting from 1917

Nicely framed.

Frame size: 23 cm high x 32 cm wide.
Heliogravure size: 15 cm high x 17.5 cm wide.

A great Dutch master artist who unfortunately died at only 31 years old. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises about 150 paintings, mostly in small formats, around 100 drawings and over 40 sheets of graphic works, mainly etchings and woodcuts.

Jan Mankes entered art history as “Holland’s most tranquil painter.” He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making around his artistry.
