Description from the seller

INDIA is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado that combines exotism, visual power and retro pop aesthetics to build a symbolic image inspired by the cultural imaginary of the Asian country.

The work presents a tiger advancing in the foreground in front of the silhouette of the Taj Mahal, creating a monumental composition where nature, architecture and myth coexist within a single scene. The animal dominates the space with a powerful and elegant presence, transformed into a symbol of energy, mystery and majesty.

Inspired by ancient illustrated travel posters and the vintage travel graphics, the painting uses vibrant colors, strong contrasts and defined black lines that give an direct and highly decorative aesthetic. The orange and reddish tones of the tiger stand out against the bright blue of the sky and water, generating a chromatic tension full of dynamism.

Beyond geographic reference, the work functions as a representation of the visual fascination associated with India: a place perceived as spiritual, exuberant and deeply symbolic. The Taj Mahal appears almost as a dream-like setting, while the tiger embodies the wild and ancestral strength of the territory.

Flavia Delgado thus transforms recognizable elements of Indian visual culture into a contemporary, stylized and cinematic image. The work blends graphic nostalgia and modern sensitivity, evoking both the great travel posters of the 20th century and the language of Pop Art.

INDIA is an intense and magnetic piece where adventure, culture and nature are united in a composition full of color, character and visual presence.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
