Description from the seller

Triptych “As I Opened Fire,” based on the original paintings from 1964 by Roy Lichtenstein, in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Each poster is in mint condition and measures 64 cm x 53 cm.

This triptych is inspired by the comic strip "All American Men of War." The three images in "As I Opened Fire" work together to tell a story. The narrative is enhanced by carefully added text. This work refers to a revolution in art in the 1960s. Formally, Lichtenstein appropriated images from popular culture. He placed them in an art-context by enlarging them, making some alterations, and painting them on canvas. In doing so, the artist blurred the boundary between high and low art.
He followed a strict, self-imposed formal vocabulary. Lichtenstein emphasized primary colors, black contours, and enlarged Benday dots that are often seen in mechanical reproductions. This work, a typical example of Pop Art, can be understood as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism. Lichtenstein responds with the erasure of the hand of the artist in his painting.

Comparable artists: Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Claes Oldenburg, Jim Dine, James Rizzi, Jasper Johns, Peter Blake, David Hockney, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Indiana, Tom Wesselmann, Frank Stella, Sam Francis, James Rosenquist, Cy Twombly.

Never been framed and is stored in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper. The displayed photos are part of the description, the shown frame (size) is for illustration and is not included.

This artwork is carefully securely packed and shipped in protective acid-free paper. No shipping to the Canary Islands.

Some artists of comparable significance, such as Basquiat, Picasso, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Sorolla, Banksy, Brainwash, Miró, Nara, Soulages, Lagasse, Ramos, Rothko, Lautrec, Klimt, Modigliani, Hirst, Chagall, Koons, Haring, Indiana, Mondrian, Groening, Richter, Monroe, Kusama, Murakami, Testa, Villemot, Oldenburg, Hopper, Ripolles, Wesselmann, Magritte, Jenk, Orlinski, Wille, Rizzi, Manara, Thiebaud, Herrera, Laurent, Klein, Coa, Dior, Vuitton, Kaws, Valentino, Cappiello, Kandinsky, Warhol, Buffa, Tura, Castle, Ponti, Knoll, Le Corbusier, Robert, Johns, Starck, Breuer, Nelson, Mogensen, Ponti, Bertoia, Urquiola, Chillida, Magistretti, Gauguin, Monet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Botero, Katz, Braque, among others.
