Description from the seller
August Rieper (1865-1940) - "Zwiesprache" (Dialog) - Large Oil on Canvas from the Munich School.
Fascinating and rare work of art by the renowned German painter August Rieper, a prominent exponent of the Munich School at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The painting, titled on the back by the artist himself "Zwiesprache" (Dialog), captures a moment of intimate rural everyday life.
The scene depicts a young woman in finely detailed traditional dress and a man wearing a hat, seated at a table in a domestic interior illuminated by a splendid leaded glass window. Rieper's mastery emerges in the play of soft light and in the realistic rendering of fabrics and faces, typical of the narrative realism of the era.
