Description from the seller
EVERSHARP SKYLINE. Pen and mechanical pencil set.
This is a magnificent writing set from the Eversharp brand, one of the most iconic signatures of the “Golden Age” of fountain pens. It is the Eversharp Skyline model, designed by the famous industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss in the early 1940s (specifically released in 1941).
1. Fountain Pen
Model: Skyline.
Material: Chocolate or dark brown resin with gold-filled details.
Filling System: A lever-filler pen. The metal lever can be seen on the side of the barrel; when raised, it presses a rubber sac inside to absorb the ink.
Nib: Solid 14K gold, made in the USA. It is known for being very smooth to write with and, at times, having a certain flexibility.
Design: Notable for its “derby” clip that wraps around the top of the cap, a design inspired by the fronts of the aerodynamic locomotives of the era.
2. Mechanical Pencil
Mechanism: Probably operates by twisting or pressing the upper cap to extend the lead.
Aesthetics: Matching the pen, it retains the central gold band and the vertical inscribed “EVERSHARP” clip.
Condition and Preservation
Case: The set comes in its original box lined with silk and velvet. Although the silk interior shows moisture or ink stains (very common over decades), the original logo remains perfectly legible.
Both pieces are in excellent cosmetic condition. The “gold filled” is intact without showing brassing (wear of the gold revealing the base metal).
This set comes from an inheritance, you are more than sixty years old, so the condition of the pen’s internal rubber sac should be kept in mind, although it has not been tested to maintain its originality. The mechanical pencil is in perfect condition, both aesthetically and mechanically, using 0.9 mm leads.
It is a highly valued collectible piece for its Streamline Moderne design and its historical importance in industrial design."
