Description from the seller
Roberto Sebastian Matta (Santiago, Chile, 1911 - Civitavecchia, 2002), Droites Libérées, aquatint on paper, 1971, 43.5 x 31.5 cm, printed area dimensions 22 x 16 cm, artist's proof, hand-signed on the right.
Roberto Sebastian Matta is one of the major figures of abstract expressionism and surrealism on a global level. His travels in Europe and the United States and his acquaintance with figures such as René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso bring Matta's painting experience far beyond the borders of Chilean painting culture and make him an internationally prominent personality. His works are present in all the world's major museums and are highly sought after by collectors.
The work in question is a rare aquatint signed in the original. The series is listed in the artist's general catalog "Matta. Catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre gravée (1943-1974)", Visat, Paris, 1975. no. 273.
The work is in excellent condition. We note the presence of some oxidation stains on the paper, visible on the reverse and practically invisible on the front.
Work supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity and legitimate provenance.
