Description from the seller
This is an oil painting of a still life of white roses. The work was created by Wil Smits (1941). The Eindhoven artist has been painting for more than twenty years, almost exclusively still lifes, thus aligning with the long tradition that this genre occupies within Dutch and Belgian painting.
Although the old masters form an important source of inspiration, Smits composes his works using a variety of antique objects from his own collection. His work is characterized by exceptionally refined detailing and a remarkably realistic depiction. In this way, Wil Smits’ paintings bridge the gap between historic painting and a contemporary approach to the classical still life.
The painting is signed with his pseudonym ‘W. Vermeer’.
Dimensions: 44 x 40 cm
Dimensions with frame: 60 x 56 cm
The work is on display in our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay operates a framing workshop (this year celebrating their 85th anniversary) and a restoration studio. So if you would like to make use of these services, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
