Description from the seller
The French painter Michel Piel (1930–2016) worked predominantly in a modern figurative style with clear Expressionist influences. His paintings often combine:
bold, vibrant colors,
dynamic brushstrokes,
animated scenes,
and a more emotional than photorealistic depiction.
Particularly typical are:
horse and sports scenes (such as polo or equestrian sports),
musicians,
street scenes,
still lifes,
as well as maritime motifs from Normandy.
His style is often categorized as:
figurative painting
Expressionism / Neo-Expressionism
École Française des 20. Century
His horse and polo pictures often appear very movement-filled — with rapid lines, strong contrasts, and almost sketch-like energy. This creates a lot of dynamism and atmosphere.
The work "Polo" fits exactly into this style.
The very beautiful, gilded frame accentuates the subject especially. Unfortunately, the frame in the right-upper corner is slightly damaged, but it can be relatively easily restored.
