Georges Braque was one of the most important French artists of the 20th century. Together with Pablo Picasso, he is regarded as one of the founders of Cubism. He studied, among others, at the École des Beaux-Arts. His early work was influenced by Impressionism and the achievements of Paul Cézanne. After World War I, he gradually moved away from radical Cubism, developing a more lyrical and symbolic artistic language in which birds, studio interiors, and still lifes became central themes.
Lithographs printed by Mourlot for Galerie Maeght are among the most sought-after graphic editions of 20th-century art and remain highly desirable collector’s pieces.
