Marc Chagall – Das weiße Fenster, a 1955 offset print in a limited edition from France, depicting a portrait in Surrealism, 50 × 63 cm, signed in the plate and framed.
Description from the seller
Marc Chagall – “The White Window” – Color print, framed with passepartout, gallery label 1990
The studio is Chagall's world: a place between memory and the present, between the tightness of the shtetl and the fullness of the South of France light. In his late decades in Vence and Saint-Paul-de-Vence, flowers, open windows and resting figures recur in his work as symbols of a peace finally reached.
In “The White Window” the view opens through a large studio window into a garden full of green and light. Roses, daisies, calla lilies — bouquets in full bloom fill the foreground, while a resting figure, dreamily, lingers at the lower edge of the picture. The window is never merely architecture for Chagall: it is the boundary between the remembered and the living, between inside and outside, between transience and permanence.
Printed signature “Marc Chagall” visible bottom right in the image. Passepartout format: 50 × 63 cm. Framed, glazed.
Provenance: Rear gallery sticker Gallery Viola, Aschaffenburg, dated Dec. 18, 1990.
With certificate.
