Sonia Anton, Heavy Sky - XL, an original acrylic painting from 2026 in 120 cm by 80 cm, hand signed, excellent condition, created in Romania and sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
A vast, atmospheric composition that commands attention through texture and restraint. The upper three quarters of the canvas are consumed by a dense, heavily worked surface of white, grey, and pale blue, built up with thick layers of paint that ripple, crater, and catch the light in constantly shifting ways. It is tactile and almost geological, like frosted glass, eroded stone, or the underside of a storm cloud seen from below. A thin, luminous strip of cream and blush runs across the middle, suggesting a distant horizon, the faintest warmth of land or light before the dark takes over. Below it, a bold, gestural band of near-black sweeps across the base of the canvas, grounding the whole piece with a sense of weight and finality. This is a painting about atmosphere, about the moment before something breaks open.
I wanted to capture that feeling of standing outside when the sky is so heavy it feels like it is pressing down on you. All that texture in the upper half is what that pressure looks like to me. The dark band at the bottom is the earth holding its ground. Everything in between is the waiting.
Sonia Anton is a Romanian-Australian artist whose passion for painting was shaped from an early age, growing up alongside her mother, a celebrated artist whose work left a lasting impression. Having lived across the world from Australia to Mexico and in different continents, Sonia brings a richness of experience and perspective to every canvas. Surrounded by creativity and self-expression from childhood, she naturally found her own voice through paint and colour. Her work is driven by a deep love of colour, and a more recent fascination with texture, which she explores with growing boldness and confidence. Each piece is an act of genuine self-expression, an invitation to feel rather than simply observe.
