Gustav Klinger - Cigarette case - .916 (88 Zolotniki) silver

Material and Technique: The case is made of 84 silver (a Russian standard of .875 fineness) and decorated with niello technique, which consists of inlays of a black metal alloy to create the design. The interior of the case may have originally been gilded.

Design: The main feature is an engraved scene in the center of the lid depicting a troika, a traditional Russian sleigh drawn by three horses, driven by a coachman with passengers. The rest of the case features an elaborate and delicate floral or scroll pattern.
