AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Giovanni Secomandi (1894–1990) – Large floral composition with roses – Oil on canvas signed – Important Lombard painter of the 20th century

Important and elegant oil painting on canvas signed by the Lombard painter Gianni Secomandi (1894–1990), an important Italian artist of the 20th century active in painting, frescoes and art restoration.

A pupil of Cesare Tallone, Secomandi worked for years in the field of frescoes both in Italy and the United States, where he carried out important ecclesiastical decorations. Returning to Italy, he collaborated on the restorations of Milan Cathedral, the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and other important Lombard artworks. He was also a scenographer at La Scala and a teacher at the Umanitaria in Milan.

The proposed work depicts a refined floral composition of roses in pink, yellow and coral tones, executed with a textural, dynamic and luminous brushstroke, typical of Italian painting of the twentieth century.

The chromatic quality, the compositional balance and the strong decorative presence make the painting particularly elegant and suitable for both collectors and classical or contemporary interiors.

Signature visible in the lower left. Also signed on the back (10.10.1975)

The work is enhanced by an important period gold wooden frame, richly worked in classical style.

Work and frame in excellent overall condition. Canvas perfectly preserved, with no evident structural damage. Excellent chromatic and pictorial conservation. Minor and normal signs of age compatible with the era of the work.

Technique: oil on canvas.

Canvas dimensions: 50 × 70 cm.

Dimensions with frame: approximately 60 × 80 cm.

Provenance: Italy, Lombardy.
