Description from the seller
ENGLISH STILL LIFE is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This work proposes an elegant and luminous domestic scene where the tea tradition becomes a celebration of color and of the small daily rituals. The composition gathers decorated teapots, floral porcelain, fruits and sweets on a white table, creating a warm atmosphere that blends classical refinement with contemporary sensitivity.
The intense red background transforms the scene into something vibrant and theatrical. Far from functioning solely as a decorative plane, the red wraps the objects and enhances their reflections, making the porcelains and enamels seem to glow from within. That contrast between the glowing red and the soft tones of greens, turquoises and blues adds dynamism and visual sophistication.
The teapots occupy the symbolic center of the work. Their floral patterns and stripes recall the English ceramic tradition and inherited objects, associated with intimate and family moments. The arrangement of cups, spoons and cookies suggests the preparation of a quiet, almost ceremonial tea time, where time seems to move more slowly. Strawberries and an orange introduce a fresh and sensory dimension. Their intense colors balance the delicacy of porcelain and add a summery air to the composition. There is in the work a delicate balance between refinement and the everyday, between the classical elegance of the tea service and the natural spontaneity of the foods and objects on the table.
Formally, the painting combines influences from traditional European still life with a modern graphic simplification. The shapes appear synthesized through clean lines and defined color planes, while the visible brushwork preserves the manual freshness of the work. The result recalls both the English decorative tradition and the vivid language of fauvism and contemporary poster art.
"English Still Life" speaks of hospitality, calm, and domestic beauty. It is a work that finds poetry in simple rituals: serving tea, sharing sweets, or pausing a few minutes in front of a carefully prepared table. An ordinary scene turned into a luminous and deeply welcoming image.
