Artist biography:
Otto Dix (2 December 1891 Untermhaus / Gera / Thuringia - 25 July 1969 Singen am Hohentwiel / Baden-Württemberg). German painter and graphic artist, outstanding representative of the New Objectivity. 1909-1914 at the Royal School of Arts and Crafts in Dresden. 1914-1918 military service as a war volunteer. 1919 studies at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, studio at Antonplatz. Founding member of the "Dresdner Sezession Gruppe 1919". 1922 moved to Düsseldorf. 1925-27 residing in Berlin. Since 1927 Professor of Painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. In 1933 he was dismissed from his post by the National Socialists and vilified as "degenerate". 1936 relocation to Hemmenhofen, meanwhile studio in Dresden.
