An elegant Showa period four-panel folding screen finished with genuine Kanazawa gold leaf. Its luminous surface creates a refined backdrop for samurai armour, dolls, ikebana, ceramics, or other Japanese displays.
The warm gold surface shows subtle texture and shifting reflections depending on the viewing angle. The reverse is finished in deep navy cloth, complemented by a black lacquered frame with decorative metal fittings.
Kanazawa gold leaf is one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional crafts, produced around Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture for over 400 years. Skilled craftsmen repeatedly hammer a small piece of gold alloy into an exceptionally thin sheet measuring only around 1/10,000 to 1/20,000 of a millimetre thick. This technique allows the gold to retain its brilliant lustre while covering large surfaces with remarkable beauty.
The original cardboard box is included.
Good vintage condition with age-related wear and minor signs of use. There are a few small holes in the backing cloth and minor spots on the original cardboard box. Please refer to the photos for details.
