In this red composition, Victor Hasch delivers one of his most free and most inhabited interpretations of the figure of Andy Warhol. Created around 2010, this mixed-media painting continues his exploration of the memory of images and of how 20th-century icons continue to resonate in contemporary creation.
The canvas builds around a powerful chromatic dialogue: on the left, the saturated red hosts a deliberately rough transfer that immediately recalls Warhol's pop universe. This motif, deconstructed and almost phantom-like, acts as a print, a reminder of the silkscreened image that became a myth.
On the right, the color darkens, densifies and releases a gesture which, despite its apparent abstraction, allows a portrait of Warhol to emerge. The midnight blue mass evokes the recognizable silhouette of his hair, while splashes of red, white and blue recombine the light areas of the face. Nothing is explicitly figurative, but everything is perceptible: Hasch does not depict Warhol, he seizes his presence, as if the face sprang from the very movement of the painting.
The whole forms a work stretched between memory and action, structure and impulse. Hasch asserts a personal language, nourished by the great figures who marked the history of art, but always reinvented by a lively gesture and a deeply contemporary sensibility. A piece where homage and deconstruction meet to give Warhol a new, vibrant and almost instinctive energy.
