Paix, a limited edition Giclée by Slasky (born 1972), 43 × 70 cm, printed on Hahnemühle 350 g, hand-signed, in excellent condition, depicting a Baroque portrait.
Description from the seller
This work represents a perfect synthesis of Slasky’s poetics, a prominent figure of the Neo Urban Classic movement.
The Roman artist executes a sophisticated temporal short circuit, layering the imagery of urban Street Art over the harmonious canvases of eighteenth-century neoclassicism. The starting figurative nucleus is the painting La Paix (The Peace) by the French Rococo master Jacques Dumont (nicknamed the Romano), which depicts an allegory of peace personified by a draped female figure holding an olive branch.
Slasky intervenes in the solemnity of the classical composition, visually profaning it through contemporary graphic elements:
The Wildstyle Graffiti:
In the background and foreground, multicolored spray writings and instinctive tags in yellow, red and white emerge, simulating the act of urban vandalism or creative vagrancy on the walls of metropolises.
The Hypebeast/Pop culture:
The insertion of the famous white Swoosh (the Nike logo) applied to the drapery of the garment acts as an ironic commercial brand, transforming the mythological figure into a pop icon immersed in the logic of modern consumerism.
The “Easy!” inscription:
Trace in a vibrant red in the lower right corner, further destabilizing the formal seriousness of the original academic work, inviting the observer to a more immediate, disenchanted and accessible approach to art history.
The work does not aim to destroy the past, but to contemporize it.
Slasky demonstrates how traditional aesthetic canons can survive and dialogue with the subterranean visual culture of the 21st century, creating a solid bridge between the historical memory of museums and the transitory vitality of the streets.
Giclée on Hahnemühle 350gsm + certificate of authenticity
