Xani studied architecture, but during his studies he increasingly turned to art. During the Kosovo War he fled his homeland and has lived in Dortmund, Germany since 1999. When painting, he experiences a sense of freedom and regards his own pictures as viewed by a stranger. He often realizes that he has unconsciously addressed current themes when he looks at his paintings, and then understands why they have become the way they are.
Training in drawing and painting with a professor of art led him to devote himself to the visual arts. His work encompasses both painting on canvas and large-scale wall and façade designs. He experiments with the reduction of forms, material structures, and the possibilities of color. His motifs often refer to a symbolic language, and the universally recognizable portrayal of the human figure that he developed runs like a red thread through many of his artistic works.

Since 2004 he has worked as a freelance artist and has participated in numerous exhibitions and art projects.
