There is something feverish about this flowering. The dark green at the base still holds back the cold of the earth, but already the first red leaves rise impatiently, lighting up progressively into crimson, into vivid pink, until the entire surface dissolves into a haze of luminous petals — pink, powdery, almost white in the center, as if the light had decided to bloom as well. It isn’t the quiet of a garden: it is the exact moment of the spring explosion, that morning when you step out and realize that something, once and for all, has changed.
