Joseph Egger (1897–1969) was a Swiss painter known for his landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and École des Beaux-Arts in Paris until 1917, then worked in Geneva before settling in Zurich in 1918.
Egger exhibited regularly in Swiss cities like Zurich, Lausanne, St. Gallen, Neuchâtel, and Arosa. His Bürgerort (place of citizenship) was St. Gallen, and he drew from Switzerland's realistic pictorial tradition.
His works feature light, loose brushstrokes with abundant matter, avoiding strict outlines. Warm tones like yellows and earth colors dominate, idealizing nature in a humanized way, as seen in pieces like "Coastal Landscape" (oil on canvas).
This coastal scene exemplifies his nuanced light and free-form technique.
