A Japanese celadon Luduan censer, Meiji Period (1868-1912)

The fierce looking Luduan gazing upward with open beak standing on four feet with curled tail. Its head is detachable and smoke comes through the open mouth when burning incense.

Dimensions:
Height 16 cm, width 9 cm, depth 15 cm.

Condition:
Good condition, commensurate with age, showing ancient wear and expected firing flaws, such as pitting and brown spots. Two teeth broken and missing. The undersides of all four feet burnt to orange in the kiln.

Ref:
An identical censer was sold recently at Zacke Auktionen, 11th Apr, 2025, lot 508, sold for €1,300.

Worldwide registered and insured shipping.
