Impressive print from the series “Inguru” by Eduardo Chillida. “Inguru” (which means “around” or “surroundings” in Basque) is a series of engravings (etchings) created by Eduardo Chillida in the late 1960s that explores the relationship between form, line, and blank space with a strong graphic presence. Moreover, “Inguru” is associated with the concept of surroundings in works such as the Peine del Viento. The series reflects his obsession with space and emptiness, translating his three-dimensional sculptural approach to the two-dimensional plane.
Eduardo Chillida Juantegui (San Sebastián, 1924-2002)
Eduardo Chillida was a Spanish sculptor and printmaker, of Basque origin but internationally renowned. His work is present in dozens of museums and public and private institutions around the world, with retrospective exhibitions held in Houston and in Berlin, Madrid and Caracas, London and Palermo. His monumental sculptures can be found facing the sea, as in San Sebastián, or in cities such as Washington, Paris, Lund, Münster, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Guernica, or Berlin. Architects such as Juan Daniel Fullaondo, critics like Peter Selz or James Johnson Sweeney, philosophers like Martin Heidegger and Emil Cioran, or poets like Octavio Paz have written about his work.
