Description from the seller
Original heliogravure on thick quality paper with the signature in the plate. This reproduction of Egon Schiele was printed in 1950 in a limited edition by the Austrian State Printing Office. This reproduction was never framed and is well preserved.
These reproductions are difficult to find because they are held by official institutions or in private collections. Specimens from the same series have in the past been sold on Catawiki for more than €1,500.
Egon Schiele (12 June 1890 – 31 October 1918) was an Austrian painter. Schiele was a protegé of Gustav Klimt and an important figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is known for its intensity and its raw sexuality, and the many self-portraits the artist made. The twisted body forms and the expressive line that characterize Schiele’s works mark him as an early exponent of expressionism.
The printing process is of the highest quality and is virtually identical to the original. Today there are only three print houses in the world that apply this. The color image is split—from light to dark—into a maximum of 25 colors and then printed in as many printing cycles on top of each other. This technique was mainly used in small editions.
This reproduction is professionally packed (not rolled) and shipped insured with a Track and Trace code.
