Description from the seller
Edition Zufall No. 30 — Theo Lambertin & Ben Vautier | Original Works, Signed & Numbered, Cologne 1983
Edition Zufall ("Edition Chance") was a unique artist's portfolio series published from 1974 onwards by Horst Hahn in Cologne, producing 66 editions in total. Each portfolio — presented in DIN A4 format — contained one to three original works by emerging and established artists active within the German and international art scenes, issued in editions of 40, signed and numbered, and accompanied by an informational leaflet. This is portfolio No. 30, copy 37/40, priced at 200 DM at the time of issue — the highest price point in the series, reflecting the calibre of the included artists.
The portfolio contains two works:
Ben Vautier (b. 1935, Naples; lived in Nice) — "Hidden Ego", No. 37/40. An original handwritten work on graph paper mounted on black film, signed "Ben" with title and edition number in the artist's hand. Vautier — known simply as "Ben" — is one of the most significant figures of the Fluxus movement, with works held in the MoMA New York, the Centre Pompidou, and numerous major international collections. Each of the 40 copies in this edition is individually handwritten, making every example unique in execution.
Theo Lambertin (b. 1949, Cologne) — "Zeitlos sei der Geist in der Zeit" from the series "Japaner werden immer schlauer". Original gouache in four colour variations. Lambertin had previously featured in Edition Zufall Nos. 10 and 12; at the time of this edition he was exhibiting at Galerie Klein, Bonn. A unique work.
Condition: Very good. Original portfolio folder and informational newsletter (Kursinformation Nr. 30, dated 10.11.1983) included.
