Description from the seller
Slasky: Enjoy (2020)
Title: Enjoy
Artist: Slasky
Technique: Giclée on canvas / Digital Art
Critical Description
The work "Enjoy" represents a pivotal moment in Slasky's artistic research, a prominent figure of the so-called "Urban Classic Art".
The author performs a sophisticated de-contextualization, drawing from a purely baroque and mythological aesthetics to collide it with the most pervasive symbols of contemporary mass culture. Beneath the imposing Coca-Cola logo, rendered in the unmistakable red Spencerian Script, unfolds an elaborate scene of classical festivity that evokes the atmospheres of masters like Caravaggio or the great decorators of the eighteenth century.
Key Themes
Temporal Contrast: The artist creates a visual circuit-breaker between the eternity of museum art and the immediacy of the "brand". The logo of the multinational acts as a filter that overwrites the mythological narrative, transforming a sacred or pastoral scene into a visual consumer product.
Pop Iconography: The title itself, "Enjoy", recalls the famous advertising slogan, inviting the viewer not only to "enjoy" classic beauty but to consume it with the same rapidity with which a carbonated drink is consumed.
Beauty Reflection:
Through the use of digital technique, Slasky democratizes classical aesthetics, making it "pop" and accessible, while maintaining a deep deference to the original painting technique.
"In a world saturated with commercial messages, Slasky reclaims the past to speak to our present, suggesting that perhaps today our new Olympus is built on global brands and marketing icons."
"Art is not about representing new things, but representing them with novelty"
