Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking among the top ten under-30 sculptors globally according to Artprice that same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh identified him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its volume FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly praised Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later approached tagging and graffiti in the Paris subway, remaining passionate about collage. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, leading to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with a show combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements inside the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl particularly loves showing his works during international exhibitions. In 2011 he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One. The following year he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo exhibition at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.

In 2010 he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world championship in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012 he donated Cryptogram One, a bronze symbol of peace and love, to Deauville, located at the city’s entrance. In the same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he created a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by figures such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his “One Dollar” sculptures, which earned him a place among the world’s top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice.

In 2017 he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Inspired by Cryptogramme One, he created a molten aluminum trophy with a mirror finish, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7e Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy, inspired by a symbol emblematic of Deauville: the drawing of the barriers that separate the beach cabins on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled during Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017 he created the Trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” on the trophies.

2026: - Finalization of the One Dollar Green Bronze 8 meters, 7 tons. The world’s largest One Dollar sculpture created by the artist.

2025: - Installation of the monumental Reflection of the Sun. Installed near the brand-new Pavillon des Terme, on the Promenade Michel d’Ornano, inaugurated by Mayor Philippe Augier on September 8.

2024: - Art Miami - Group exhibitions Galerie Nicolas Auvray New York. On this occasion, a bronze cryptogram of 1.80 m and a 2-meter One Dollar were exhibited during the event.
- 50th anniversary of the Deauville American Film Festival; for the occasion the artist created 18 bronze trophies as well as a 2-meter sculpture to be installed at the CID. Artists interviewed about the artist and who received the trophy include: Michael Douglas, Daisy Ridley, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Mikey Madison...

2023: - Aspen Saint Regis: Installation of the 2-meter One Dollar sculpture in front of the St. Regis. The Aspen Times covered the event in a dedicated article.
- Rapper Rick Ross posed with a special One Dollar edition of the St. Regis.

2022: - New York: Times Square, NY City, projection on the Nasdaq screen of the work “A One Dollar in the Cyberspace City.”

2017: - Karl Lagasse succeeds the prestigious Maison Cartier in creating the trophies for the Deauville American Film Festival.

2016: - Paris Art Fair at the Grand Palais
- A two-meter-tall “One Dollar,” entirely bronze, was exhibited at Art Paris. The French president visited the show and personally praised the artist for his work.
- First in Spain at Marbella’s Atrium Gallery, a solo show with new collections in the presence of the international press and the city mayor, Jose Bernal Gutierrez. A special performance by his wife, opera singer Cherise Lagasse, who performed pieces from her repertoire.

2015: - Second collaboration with Maserati with the creation of a monumental installation titled “A Piece of Heaven on Earth.” This work comprises a Maserati covered with white plastic film and a sculpture of Jesus Christ. Around the car, several sculptures depicting dollar bills are laid on the floor, symbolizing the repayment of humanity’s greatest debt.

2014: - Maserati unveils in world premiere the Maserati Ghibli reimagined by Karl Lagasse on the occasion of the brand’s 100th anniversary.
