Description from the seller
A rare reproduction of the famous 1933 masterpiece entitled "Profilo Continuo del Duce" (Continuous Profile of the Duce), conceived by the Italian sculptor Renato Bertelli (1900–1974), a prominent figure in the Italian futurist scene. At first glance it does not look like a classic bust, but those who observe closely will be astonished to recognize the distinctive Mussolini profile on every side of the work, thanks to its pronounced jawline. For this reason the work is called "Profilo continuo del Duce": the profile remains identifiable in 360 degrees, whether viewed from the left, from the right, from the front, or from behind. The project, innovative and decidedly avant-garde for its time, evokes mechanical aesthetic elements and was linked to Mussolini’s image as the interpreter of the working class and of the machine. This unusual bust format was often interpreted as a symbol of the omnipresent leader, always vigilant over the country. Art critic Marco Moretti observed that the plastic dynamics of the continuous profile convey, without rhetoric, the metaphor of a leader who is attentive and always present. The relationship between sculpture and photography is significant: the renowned photographer Robert Mapplethorpe produced a notable image of this work, highlighting its compositional value in art photography. This rare and exclusive resin reproduction stands out for its appearance and quality, finished with a bronze-aged patina and resting on a removable base. The resin specimen stands 14 cm tall, mounted on a black base 4 cm high; the total object is therefore 18 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 11 cm deep, with a weight of about 1.2 kg. Shipping will take place immediately after purchase, with tracking and careful packaging.
