Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist at home and abroad. His works are included in various renowned art collections, and he was elected as the first Dutch artist to be named an Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels' artworks lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he prefers to imagine the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with a different, imaginative look at everyday things and is often surprised as a result.
Briels imagines the experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central- and South-American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, with a lightly erotic sauce over the musical tones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never tied to a specific time and convey universal themes, cosmopolitan imaginations of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the tool; the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by presenting images different from those we are expected to see. Because stereotypes are learned by us and not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is left with surprises.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 33 x 29 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we use restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
