Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a much sought-after artist domestically and abroad. His artworks are included in various renowned art collections and he was the first Dutch artist elected as Official Olympic Artist for the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind the artworks of Clemens Briels lies always a story, his artworks are small anecdotes from a contrasting society. Clemens Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISME: he imagines rather the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, fantastical view on everyday things and often encounters surprises.
Briels imagines his experiences that he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean and North- and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, the music tones draped in a light erotic sauce, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
The artworks of Clemens Briels are never bound to time and depict universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer’s imagination by showing different images than those we are expected to see. Because our stereotypes are learned rather than imaginative interpretations of surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 33 x 29 cm
Viewing is of course possible. Additionally we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
