NO RESERVE - Brindando, an oil painting from France dating to 1950–1960, portraying a portrait.
Description from the seller
Title: The Drinker
School: Fauvist (XX)
Style: Fauvism
Technique: Oil on canvas
A work with a strong Fauvist influence that depicts a seated female figure in an introspective pose while holding a glass in one hand and a bottle in the other, in front of a plate arranged on the table. The composition stands out for its expressive use of color and for the volumetric construction of the face and hands through broad geometric brushstrokes and color contrasts. The character appears set against an open landscape of fields and mountains, visible through a window, generating a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
The color palette combines greens, purples, ochres and earthy tones that add depth and dynamism to the scene. The synthetic treatment of the forms and the expressive distortion of the portrait directly recall European avant-garde currents of the 20th century, especially Fauvism and certain approaches near Expressionism. The work conveys a sense of psychological intimacy and compositional balance, where the female figure becomes the central axis of the entire scene.
The brushwork is firm and structured, with an almost sculptural construction of the body and the face, while the background elements are treated in a more simplified manner to reinforce the presence of the protagonist.
Dimensions: 117 x 83 cm
Notes: Shows slight signs of use consistent with the passage of time.
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will need photographs of the damage to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our top priority.
Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an excess charge due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding measurements, or item weight. PremiArt will in no case cover this surcharge.
