Description from the seller
Important orientalist female bust in Carrara marble and natural marbles of different tones, attributed to an Italian school of the second half of the 19th century, around 1860.
The work depicts a young woman veiled, with noble and elegant features, characterized by a contemplative gaze and a refined formal balance that recalls the great tradition of Italian academic 19th-century Orientalist sculpture.
The main body of the sculpture is carved from a substantial block of Carrara marble, entirely hand-sculpted with chisel technique. Particularly extraordinary is the veil workmanship, characterized by deep, soft and fluid folds, capable of creating refined light effects and transparency typical of works by master 19th-century sculptors.
The composition is enriched by delicate decorative elements in different varieties of natural marble: salmon-colored carved roses, finely worked green leaves, and a turned base in red marble.
The ensemble recalls the elegance of important Italian decorative productions in the Grand Tour taste, highly appreciated by European aristocracy in the second half of the 19th century.
An artwork with exceptional presence on stage, weighing about 40 kg.
Exceptional condition for its age: sturdy and stable structure, no structural cracks or major restorations visible. It presents only a very slight defect on a small corner of one green leaf (about 3–4 mm), besides minimal signs of time consistent with the age of the work.
Dimensions:
• Total height: 60 cm
• Head height: 21 cm
• Shoulder width: 38 cm
• Base height: 11 cm
• Base diameter: 18.5 cm
• Face width: 12 cm
• Weight: about 40 kg
Note: some photographs were taken outdoors in natural sunlight to highlight the marble’s brilliance, the quality of the polish, and the authentic rendering of colors and hand-carved details.
Shipping and pickup:
If the buyer selects one of the already available shipping options with indicated price, the cost will remain unchanged as shown in the listing.
It is also possible to choose pickup or self-arranged transport. In this case the work will still be carefully packed by the seller with professional protections and a reinforced crate/box suitable for the safe transport of heavy and delicate works.
Pickup available in Varese, Italy.
For countries where there is no automatic shipping rate, the buyer may select the pickup option and subsequently choose one of the following methods:
• organize transport independently through their own courier;
• or request the seller to organize the shipment.
In case the shipment is organized by the seller, the transport cost must be paid before departure on the basis of the pro forma invoice issued by the transport company in charge.
