Description from the seller
Magnificent Visconti fountain pen gift set, Model: Van Gogh collection
Condition: Brand new, never used.
"Orchard of flowering prunus trees" is the second oil on canvas selected by Visconti from Van Gogh's Japanese works. The artist created this painting in 1887 after a Japanese Hiroshige print titled "Prunus Garden at Kameido".
"And it seems to me that we could not study Japanese art without coming away happier and more joyful; it brings us back to nature, despite our education and our work in a world of conventions." – Vincent Van Gogh, Letter to Theo, September 24, 1888.
The meticulous selection of resins and their color blends constitute one of Visconti's major innovations and give each Visconti Van Gogh pen a unique character. The colors are enhanced by the 18-facet, unique design of the Van Gogh Collection.
The century-old plum tree that served as the model for the original print was poetically nicknamed "the sleeping dragon plum tree." Van Gogh faithfully reproduced the composition, breathes in more intense colors, and replaced the black and gray of Hiroshige's tree trunk with reds and blues. He also added two orange borders adorned with Japanese characters, for a decorative and exotic effect.
The collection features yellow-gold plated metal accents that enhance the red, green, and brown acrylic resin.
The fountain pen set includes a 30 ml bottle of ink called "Orchard of flowering prunus trees".
The nib is fine-sized with a converter system.
This pen carries the reference number: 1686
"What can a person do when he thinks of all the things he cannot understand, but look at the fields of wheat?"
- Vincent Van Gogh
