Description from the seller
Memoire de Bali II – work by Guillaume Corneille
It is a typical work of the artist Corneille. In this kind of works he often shows people, animals and birds together in a colorful, imaginative world.
Corneille used in his art vivid colors, simple forms and clear lines, making the work feel playful and lively. The couple in the work can be seen as a symbol of connection and love, while the birds reinforce the sense of freedom and movement.
Corneille (1922-2010) was a painter and graphic artist who in the early fifties radicalized the conservative Dutch art world. Together with five other influential artists, including Karel Appel and Constant, he founded the post-war European expressionist movement CoBrA in 1948. Corneille attended drawing and etching courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam between 1940 and 1942, but is generally regarded as an autodidact painter. Initially strongly influenced by Picasso, Corneille produced abstract work. From the late sixties, Corneille's work took on a more figurative character. In this work, birds, women and flowers are often the subjects.
Dimensions of the work: 24 x 17 cm
