Description of the work:
In this vibrant mixed technique on paper from 1975, René Parodi explores the dynamic potentials of the continuous line. Lignes profuses (Profuse lines) presents as a dense, organic tangle of curved and swirling lines. The predominant tones of green and blue, enriched by warm earthy and brown touches, build a dense and floating texture that evokes immediate associations with abstract nature, similar to thick tree canopies or reflections of water. The rapid, confident, and uninterrupted stroke perfectly represents the artistic phase linked to informal abstraction and tachisme, in which Parodi frees the painterly gesture to express a deep search for interiority.
Biographical and historical-artistic notes:
Born in Geneva in 1914, René Parodi was a figure of great prominence in the Swiss cultural scene, distinguishing himself from a young age as both an architect and a painter. After studies in architecture at the Federal Polytechnic of Zurich (where he graduated in 1939), he pursued, in parallel, a brilliant career in design and a prolific and passionate painterly research.
His production traversed several evolutionary phases, moving fluidly from figurative to abstraction, deeply exploring the expressive potential of color. He regularly exhibited in galleries and exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad, establishing himself among the innovative Swiss artists of the 20th century. His works – and in particular abstract compositions belonging to the Lignes profuses cycle – appear regularly in major auctions, especially at the leading Swiss auction houses, testimony to a consolidated and lasting collecting interest in his work. He passed away in his beloved Geneva in 1989.
