Serge Lassus (born in 1933) is a French painter of Basque and Béarnaise origin. He studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris and was admitted fourth out of 800 candidates.

After his studies, Lassus began working as an illustrator. In 1955, he illustrated a children’s book for the first time. However, he is best known for his lithographs and paintings, which mainly depict horses and forests.

In 1955, he was chosen to illustrate Paris’s golden book. He already created gouaches and canvases in his spare time; the Basque Coast inspires him. He lived on his property in Bordeaux until 1995, then moved to Spain, in the sun. He now lives in Le Cannet.

Having dedicated his life to painting, he has exhibited all over France and many times abroad: Tokyo, New York, Osaka, Los Angeles, Kobe, Art Expo NY, Nagoya, Madrid, Tias in Tokyo, Alicante, Oslo, Stuttgart.

Lassus’s works have been sold at auction 92 times, mainly in the Modern Art category. His paintings and lithographs often depict horses in forest landscapes. He uses bright colors and angular forms to render these animals as majestic and powerful. His technique is very interesting, giving the impression that his horses are in motion.
