Description from the seller
Gerard Sala (b. 1942) - Seeking Moon and Bird (Symbolic Abstraction) - 20th Century.
Signed work with confirmed authorship by Gerard Sala (b. 1942), an indispensable figure of Catalan contemporary art with an established career in historic galleries such as Sala Parés or Joan Prats. "Seeking Moon and Bird" (1989) stands out in the market for its extraordinary and complex material execution, exceptionally detailed and notarized on the back of the piece itself. The artist deploys his characteristic abstract, dreamlike iconography through a mixed technique of the highest craftsmanship: on a base of handmade paper from the historic Molí paper mill of Ca l'Oliver dyed with an airbrush, Sala overlays a meticulous collage of textured papers painted by hand, finishing with a two-screen serigraphy intervention produced at the Empremta Gràfica workshop in Barcelona. As a carefully limited edition 19/35 with undeniable documentary traceability, it constitutes a solid acquisition for collectors of Spanish contemporary art and a work of high aesthetic and chromatic value for interior design projects of a high level.
Excellent overall condition. The handmade support remains stable, preserving the absolute vividness of the original pigments and the intact relief of the collage elements. The frame, in light-toned stripped wood with protective glass, shows minor signs of use irrelevant to the overall appreciation of the piece, ceding all chromatic prominence to the composition.
Technique: Mixed media (airbrush, collage of textured papers painted by hand, and two-screen serigraphy).
Support: Handmade paper.
Dimensions: 67 x 81 cm (unframed) / 86 x 99 cm (framed).
Signature: Signed in pencil in the lower right corner of the front. Back with extensive handwritten justification of the technique, title, date (1989) and numbering (19/35), validated with signatures and the original notary seal.
Provenance: Private collection.
Shipping: Will be sent framed under glass. SHIPPING INSURANCE INCLUDED.
Translation of the handwritten certificate on the back:
