Universally celebrated as one of the greatest figurative sculptors of the postwar era, alongside Giacomo Manzù and Marino Marini, Messina devoted his life to capturing the poetic and fluid movement of the human body, with a particular focus on the ethereal realm of ballet and professional female dancers.
This exceptional sculpture, entitled "Danzatrice", depicts a slender and elegant female silhouette, captured in a moment of pure introspection. The arms are delicately crossed at the hips and the body is slightly contrapposto, with a foot gracefully extended forward, evoking a majestic sense of verticality and grace.
