Description from the seller
Hermien van Herpt (1943) is a Dutch painter, draftsman and graphic artist, known for her socially engaged and expressive work. In her art she combines figurative elements with symbolism and a strong social commitment. Especially in her graphics from the seventies and eighties, themes such as apartheid, peace and social inequality come to the fore. Additionally, Van Herpt created series inspired by classical female figures, such as the Venus of Botticelli, in which she connects art-historical images with everyday life. Her work is characterized by powerful forms, clear compositions and a personal, narrative visual language. After years of working in the Netherlands, she settled in Spain, where she continued to be active in their studio ‘Art Les Roques’ together with artist Bernard van der Wielen.
Artwork with frame: 83 x 63 cm
Artwork without frame: 55 x 44 cm
The work is available to view in our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay has a picture-framing workshop (this year their 85th anniversary) and a restoration studio. So if you would like to make use of these, we would of course be pleased to hear from you.
