AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

HABANA is a painting measuring 70 x 100 cm by Flavia Delgado, inspired by the graphic aesthetics of old travel posters and the urban iconography of Cuba in the mid-20th century.

The work depicts a classic car traversing the streets of Havana, evoking the city’s nostalgic and cinematic character. The composition captures the elegance of vintage American cars, today one of the great visual symbols of Cuba.

Flavia Delgado blends influences from pop art, classic comics, and vintage editorial illustration, evoking the old illustrated covers and graphic advertisements from the fifties and sixties. The bold black lines, strong contrasts, and simplification of forms recall the visual language of retro advertising and classic tourist posters.

The color palette in intense blues, blacks, and sandy tones provides a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, while the urban scene conveys movement, memory, and popular character.

The piece functions as a visual homage to Caribbean culture, to classic American design, and to the timeless aesthetics of the great tropical cities.

HABANA combines nostalgia, graphic design, and popular culture in a work designed to bring personality, color, and visual impact to the space.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
