Description from the seller
Saint Jerome Writing – Oil on canvas, Caravaggesque style
Original work executed in oil on canvas, inspired by the great Italian Baroque tradition and, in particular, by Caravaggio's poetic vision. The painting depicts Saint Jerome in the act of writing, immersed in a deep meditative and spiritual dimension.
The composition is dominated by intense chiaroscuro: a warm and oblique light models the saint's marked face and his long white beard, emerging from a dark and enveloping background. This dramatic contrast enhances the realism of the scene and gives the work a strong emotional charge.
The traditional iconographic elements – the book (on which lies the incipit of the Magnificat), the skull (memento mori) and the writing instruments – emphasize the theme of reflection on time, knowledge, and spirituality. The tactile rendering of the painting, with thick brushstrokes and a palette of earthy and warm tones, recalls the technique of the masters of the seventeenth century.
An artwork of great visual impact, ideal for collectors and lovers of sacred art and the Baroque, capable of enriching any space with elegance and depth.
