Description from the seller
*André Wagner (Germany, 1980)
"Hidden Layers", 2016
Photography from the series Hidden Layers, in which André Wagner explores the perception of the human body through the overlay of color, structure and fragmentation. The work presents an abstracted back view, partly concealed by geometric fields of color. This visual layering creates a tension between visibility and withdrawal – the motif remains recognizable and at the same time resists a clear readability.
The work moves between photography and painterly composition. Through deliberate color interventions a second layer emerges, guiding the eye and at the same time unsettling it. Body and space merge into a reduced, almost architectural form.
The work addresses the fragility of perception: What we see is never complete – it is always a fragment, overlaid by memories, expectations and visual filters.
André Wagner is an internationally active photographer-artist with exhibitions, among others, at the Moritzburg Art Museum and in the context of the Venice Biennale. His works are in private and institutional collections.
