Materials & Techniques: The item is crafted from "84" standard silver (approximately 87.5% purity) and features niello decoration, a technique using a black metallic alloy to fill engraved designs.
Design Details: The lid features a central monogram within an ornamental cartouche surrounded by a geometric checkerboard pattern.

Historical Context: Many similar items originated from Moscow or St. Petersburg during the 1870s to 1890s and were used to hold snuff or tobacco.
