In the fading series, Yvonne compares the brief life of flowers to the brief life of humanity. She incorporates the flowers of the old masters into modern portraits. The result is an image with symbolism that was also used in the Golden Age.
Expounding her ever-recurrent theme of vulnerability, she uses the atmosphere of the paintings of the old masters to express transience: the fading of beauty over time.
She also enhances this image through (digital) brushstrokes of painting: it fades the color. The butterfly, a symbol of vulnerability, transformation and time, often features in the portraits.
